The Mayo Review is a literary journal published by Texas A&M University - Commerce, Department of Literature and Languages.

The Mayo Review publishes creative prose, poetry, drama, and artwork in both a print and online format. Submissions are welcome from students, faculty, and staff of the university, as well as creative writers and artists outside the university environment.

Denise Duhamel's Two and Two

Denise Duhamel is an amazing poet. You might have heard of her "Barbie" poems in her book Kinky. Her poetry is multidimensional: funny, poignant, and sometimes painful. The first poem of Two and Two is titled "Noah and Joan," which she wrote after discovering "that 20 pecent of Americans believe / that Noah (of Noah's Ark) was married / to Joan of Arc." There you go.

Marjane Satrapi's Persepolis

I had the opportunity to listen to Marjane Satrapi talk about her Persepolis graphic novels (or comics if you prefer) and her film, which was nominated for an Academy Award. If you haven't heard of it, Satrapi writes of her childhood in Iran and the political upheaval that took place. Luis Rodriguez's Always Running

I recently had the opportunity to listen Luis Rodriguez speak about his life as a gang member in LA. Wow! Another amazing author and individual. He is inspirational and a man of hope and vision. Guess what? We have a signed copy of Always Running--La Vida Loca: Gang Days in L.A.
