Peter Johnson's What Happened

Peter Johnson has sent us a signed copy of What Happened. As much as I want to keep it for my own collection, we're going to give this away to one of our regular contributors.
You'll want to read What Happened. Johnson's prose is poetic, which make sense because he is also a poet.

Denise Duhamel's Two and Two

Denise Duhamel is an amazing poet. You might have heard of her "Barbie" poems in her book Kinky. Her poetry is multidimensional: funny, poignant, and sometimes painful. The first poem of Two and Two is titled "Noah and Joan," which she wrote after discovering "that 20 pecent of Americans believe / that Noah (of Noah's Ark) was married / to Joan of Arc." There you go.

We have a signed copy waiting for you.

Marjane Satrapi's Persepolis

I had the opportunity to listen to Marjane Satrapi talk about her Persepolis graphic novels (or comics if you prefer) and her film, which was nominated for an Academy Award. If you haven't heard of it, Satrapi writes of her childhood in Iran and the political upheaval that took place. Follow this link for the trailer on youtube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mpNATfZH5KU

Luis Rodriguez's Always Running

I recently had the opportunity to listen Luis Rodriguez speak about his life as a gang member in LA. Wow! Another amazing author and individual. He is inspirational and a man of hope and vision. Guess what? We have a signed copy of Always Running--La Vida Loca: Gang Days in L.A.
